Our Story
Our journey began in 2019 — a year that changed our lives forever. That was when two cheeky piglets, Hippo and Tulip, came to live with us and quietly set us on a path we never expected to follow.
Around the same time, we read Esther the Wonder Pig, a book that opened our eyes to just how intelligent, emotional, and loving pigs truly are. It helped us realise we weren’t alone in seeing pigs as family — and planted a seed that would eventually grow into something much bigger.
Our love for animals runs deep. It began with my dad, who, after following a lorry carrying pigs to market, became convinced they knew exactly where they were going. He said he could see it in their eyes. From that day on, he never ate meat again. My sister & I were raised to respect all life, and that belief has guided every step since.
When Hippo was just a few months old, he was diagnosed with a rare muscle condition, myotonia congenita. The thought that pigs like him could be discarded simply because of disability was unbearable. We knew we had to do more — not just for Hippo, but for others like him.
We began by helping transport pigs at risk across the UK, driving hundreds of miles to get them to safety. In 2022, with the support of our family, we took a leap of faith and moved to Wales to establish our sanctuary. I now have my level 3 in sanctuary management . Our mum, affectionately known as Nanny Jill, became our founder. She lived on site, loved the animals deeply, and believed the sanctuary was “one step away from heaven.” Her legacy lives on in everything we do.
Today, we rescue, rehabilitate, and care for vulnerable pigs — with a special focus on those with additional or complex needs. We work closely with veterinary teams to support pioneering treatments and improve welfare standards, while also helping rehome pigs we cannot accommodate ourselves. We provide education programmes on site charging hearts one pig at a time .
We are fully licensed to transport pigs and other farm animals, provide education and guidance for responsible pig guardianship, and support emergency rescues whenever possible. We are full-time volunteers on the sanctuary and we show up every day because God has graced us with determination compassion and a faith that is stronger than our weakness.
We are set up as a CIC and rely on the kindness of others to help us by volunteering and fundraising. This work is not easy, but it is a calling. We believe every pig deserves safety, dignity, and love, and we will always fight for those who need us most.
