Hippo
Hippo the hero pig is 5 years old. He was born on 29th July 2019.
He has a rare muscle disease called Myotonia Congenita. He is the only pig in Europe to be diagnosed with this. The nearest pig recorded with this is in Brazil. Hippo was finally diagnosed by Bristol, Langford University vets after extensive tests and many visits.
Hippo has stiff joints and if he lays down, or falls over, he is unable to get up on his own without being aided. He is friendly, lovable, cuddly and tries his hardest in everything he does.
That’s why he is our hero.
Since moving to Wales, he no longer needs to wear a harness, as he has gained strength here. He used to wear this to help us to lift him up from laying down. He is Pennywell pig and at 50kg, he is one of our smaller pigs.
